v0.2 · new: clipboard history

Grab thebanana.

The pixel-art screenshot tool that lives in your menu bar. Grab a region, mark it up, copy it, and get back to the banana stand.

macOS 14 or newer on Apple Silicon. Notarized by Apple, which is more than anyone can say for the Bluth Company's books.

The editor

It's not a trick.
It's an illusion.

Every arrow, box and banana stays an editable layer, so you can change your mind as often as GOB changes careers. Go on, draw on it. This one works.

Banana Grabber

Same toolbar, same layers, same GOB as the app. The app grabs your actual screen, though. This page can only grab its own banana stand.

New in 0.2

Everything you copy.
Even the bananas.

Banana Grabber now remembers your clipboard: text, links, files and images, even after a restart. Press ⇧⌘C anywhere and pick something from before. Maccy fans: same shortcut, more GOB.

  • Pops up at your cursorType to search. ⌘1 to ⌘9 picks one instantly, or use the arrows and Return.
  • Images tooEvery screenshot you copy lands in history with a thumbnail. Grab, copy, grab again, paste both.
  • Pin the good stuff⌥P keeps an item at the top for good. ⌥⌫ deletes one.
  • Pastes for youTurn it on and choosing an item drops it straight into the app you were in.
  • Keeps secrets secretCopies from password managers are never saved. History stays on your Mac, in a private folder that isn't backed up.

    Features

    Everything you need.
    Nothing you don't. Except GOB.

It's a screenshot tool. It's a layer editor. It's a pocket-sized magician with very strong opinions about chicken dances.

    Grab anything

A region with ⇧⌘6 from anywhere, a window, or the whole screen. All from the banana in your menu bar.

    Draw all over it

Pen, highlighter, arrows, boxes with fills and rounded corners, and outlined text in seven fonts.

    Hide the evidence

Pixelate passwords, emails, and the $250,000 in the walls. Focus dims everything except the part that matters.

    Layers. All of them.

Everything stays editable. Move it, recolor it, reorder it, delete it, or flatten the whole thing.

    Paste in more

Hit ⌘V or drag other images in as layers, then resize them by the corners.

    Crop & resize

Crop with handles. Resize to exact pixel dimensions. No illusions about the numbers.

    History strip

Your last 100 grabs ride along the bottom of the editor. Right-click one to find it in Finder or toss it.

    Your defaults

Save your favorite settings for each tool. Set it and forget it, like a Segway you can't get off.

    Clipboard history

Everything you copy, images included, one ⇧⌘C away. Search it, pin it, paste it.

    Your shortcuts

Change every global shortcut, or switch to the macOS keys (⇧⌘4, ⇧⌘3) in one click.

    Updates itself

New versions arrive on their own, signed and verified. No more downloading zips. This is the last one, promise.

    GOB after every grab

A GOB Bluth quote after every screenshot, plus an optional GOB watermark. Fifty-six quotes. Zero regrets.

    Keyboard magic

    Hands on the keys.
    Eyes on the banana.

No mouse required. A magician never reveals his secrets, but these are printed right on the menu. Don't like them? Change any of them in Settings, or use the macOS keys.

    Install

    Three steps.
    No illusions.

No Terminal, no Xcode, no building from source. Just a banana in a zip file.

    1. Download

Grab BananaGrabber.zip and double-click it to unzip.

    2. Drag to Applications

Drop Banana Grabber into your Applications folder and open it. A banana shows up in your menu bar. There's no Dock icon. That's normal.

    3. Allow screen grabs

Press ⇧⌘6, then turn on Banana Grabber in System Settings, Privacy & Security, Screen Recording. Quit and reopen it once. Done.

Want it to paste for you from clipboard history? Turn it on in Settings and allow Accessibility when macOS asks. From 0.2 on, Banana Grabber updates itself. On 0.1? Download it once more and you're set.

About the watermark: until you unlock it, GOB rides along on every image you grab. Got the password? Click the gold Unlock button in the editor. Don't have it? Ask whoever told you about Banana Grabber, or embrace the banana. Honestly, he improves most screenshots.

    Last chance

    I've made a huge mistake.

Said nobody who ever grabbed a banana.
